Some of our Club members paticipated in this exciting series.

Killarney, Cape Town -  6th June 2015

This 3 hour event was held at Killarney in Cape Town.

We entered 4 teams made up of the following members:-

The Hendok Team 1- Fred de Kock and Nicky Dicks

The Hendok Team 2 - Justin Mathie and Gary Sherratt.

The Bigfoot Team -  Sun Moodley , Preyen Moodley and Andrew Culbert.

The Dream Ahead Team - Tania and Graham du Toit

Cape Town delivered freezing evenings and mornings but absolutely stunning days!.

Friday was made up of few practice sessions , a qualifying session and then a night-time practice – this was truly interesting – especially if you are not that familiar with the track.

Saturday was a comfortable start for the entrants with a warm-up session and then the long wait for the main event which was scheduled to start at 16h15.

With sunset being 17h44 the first half was under sunshine and the second under spotlight – an

interesting experience especially as some of the single seaters have exceptionally bright LED lights and when they come up behind you - you cannot see the track ahead – but that’s another tale to be told over a few whisky’s!

Justin and Gary suffered a shaft failure early on in the race and were forced to retire.

The other teams handled themselves rather admirably and managed to finish the race – the singularly most important task in an endurance event – they say you have to first finish to be first.

Results:

Fred and Nicky – qualified 5th and finished second overall and first in Class

Sun , Preyen and Andrew – qualified 2nd and

finished 5th overall and third in Class.

Graham and Tania – qualified 15th and

finished 8th overall and fourth in Class.

Graham and Tania were awarded the Team of the Day Trophy.

Weltevreden Estate

On Sunday Graham and Tania visited Weltevreden Estate to  feast their eyes on Andre Bezuidenhou’ts private collection – and what a collection it is – cars ranging from 912 , 911T , 911S , 935 , 993 GT2 (two of them!) 996 GT3 , 996 RSR etc.

I suggest you take a drive out there when next in Cape Town – worth the effort!

Phakisa – 4 July 2015 – 1 1/2/ hour endurance.

This was more like it – home away from home!

Graham and Tania were however the only Club members participating as Fred was otherwise engaged and Sun was taking part at the Dezzi Invitational in Port Shepstone.

Again there was ample track time on the Friday and Graham and Tania simply nursed their car along as there were no tyre supplies available in SA!

Graham and Tania qualified 20th of the 37 teams that entered.

The race started at 15h45 and the whole race would be held under sunlight – a pleasure as I certainly did not feel like suffering under the blinding lights of the single seaters again!

Tania started first and after about 30 minutes she thought she had a tyre issue so she came in – all was however in order and after adding a dash of fuel Graham took over the driving seat and finished the event.

There was a rather large amount of cars that simply did not get to the finish line and Graham managed to pass a stricken Willem van der Westhuizen  (in his new 430 Kessel Racing Ferrari) about 2 or 3 laps from the end.

Graham and Tania both managed to post 1.54’s during the race with Tania being the faster of the 2 – again!

The du Toit team finished 10th overall and managed to secure a Class win – big smiles all round.

The final round of the African Endurance Series will be the 9 hour to be held at Kyalami on 21 November 2015.
